47 kg ganja, 42 lakh rupees seized in drug raid in Bardhaman

East Bardhaman police seized 47 kg of ganja and ₹42 lakh in cash during a raid on a drug trafficking operation in Memari on Thursday. The raid was carried out in the Cinema Hall area of Memari, based on confidential information received by the authorities. The drugs were discovered hidden inside bags of animal feed at the residence of Sangita Sahaani. The ganja was found in large sacks, and some portions were wrapped in smaller packets known as ‘puria,’ typically used for distribution.

In addition to the drugs, a significant amount of cash was recovered from the basement of Sahaani’s house. The money, stored in a black bag, included ₹20, ₹50, ₹100, and ₹500 notes. Bank employees were brought in to assist with counting the money, which was neatly arranged in stacks. The total amount of cash seized during the operation was approximately ₹42 lakh.

Police officials, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Ark Banerjee, confirmed the seizure of the drugs and money. Banerjee stated that two sacks were recovered—one containing various packets of ganja and another containing one-kilogram portions of ganja. The raid began at approximately 2:30 PM and was completed later in the afternoon, with authorities confirming the recovery of both the drugs and the cash. The investigation is ongoing, and police are focusing on uncovering the full extent of the trafficking operation.

Authorities are working to identify the source of the ganja and trace its distribution routes. Investigators suspect the involvement of additional individuals in the trafficking network. As of now, Sahaani, the woman arrested in connection with the operation, will be presented before the Bardhaman Court for further legal proceedings. The police are also looking into other potential locations tied to this operation as part of the ongoing probe.
